Residents demand probe, accuse officials of hoodwinking people
Despite spending crores, PHE tube well defunct

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 10: Poor management and lack of proper survey before execution on the part of Public Health Engineering Department can be gauged from the fact that a tube well which was constructed a year ago after spending crores at village Bhour camp in Jammu has failed to serve any purpose.
Sources told Early Times that a tube well was sanctioned for village Bhour camp in 2016 to provide potable water facilities to the thousand of households of the area covering Bhour camp, Ward 1 and 2, and Chatha Pind.
The construction continued for two years and crores were spent but when it was completed, it couldn't yield water. "Before execution of the tube well, the officials of PHE had assured the public that there was adequate availability of ground water.
They started the work by using bore well machines which took nearly two years to complete but failed to yield water," they said that the locals lodged complaint with senior officials of the department to conduct probe into the matter and demanded strict action against the faulty officials but no action has been taken so far.
Sources informed that not only the wrong selection of the spot for tube well by the department, even very low diameter of pipe was used for bore well which was also one of the reasons for non yielding of water.
"Earlier there was plan to renovate and modify the old tube well by the department which was running properly but later due to some technical problems faced by the PHE, the plan was abandoned then a new site was found which was exactly behind the existing tube well but this time tube well failed to get water which shocked the people of the area," they said further adding that ill planning on the execution of department, the project failed and government suffered loss of crores of rupees.
