IB people deprived of reservation benefits on political grounds, say border denizens
1/10/2019 11:18:05 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 10: The State Government is yet to take a decision regarding extension of reservation benefits of Line of Control (LOC) to International Border (IB) as announced by Ministry of Home Affairs last month.
The decision will benefit hundreds of people on IB by getting preference in Government jobs and also admission in professional institutions.
However with the failure of State Government to say not to the proposal, the people living along IB have not been able to get benefits under the scheme.
However the BJP which boats off the decision taken by the Narendra Modi Government have demanded a probe why the discrimination was made within a region of the State while granting reservation benefits to LOC people and those living on I B were deprived of the same when the people on IB as well as LoC face similar problems and there is no logic in preferential treatment to one area and ignoring the other on the pretext that composition of population on LOC and IB is different.
Turning tables on previous rulers in the State and at the Centre Ram Kumar of Arnia border sector said that it was deliberately done by Kashmir centric leadership who ruled State over the years as they were not interested in the welfare of people of Jammu. He demanded a probe into the matter.
He said the Jammu leaders who remained in the Government failed to take up the issue and provide justice to them.
"We have suffered heavy loss due to cross border firing during last 30 years of turmoil due to shelling from across the border and cross border infiltration but the Government failed to take cognisance of the same'', said Mohan Lal Kanathia in border belt of Hiranagar.
Had we been given the benefit of four percent reservation our youth would have also got preference in jobs and admission in professional colleges, he added.
But we were deprived of the same on political grounds by Kashmir centric leaders who were not interested in our welfare; he said and demanded that the decision should not be delayed any more.
He said biased approach of Kashmir centric politicians against this region can be gauged from the fact that fact that the the Jammuites were deprived of Dogra certificate on the basis of which the youth of Jammu we're given preference in recruitment in Armed forces.
This too was done to deny these opportunities to Jammu youth he added.
He however exuded confidence that with the assurance given to Jammu youth by Union Government which took up the issue with Chief Secretary of the State, the SAC will give nod to the decision soon.
