Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Jan 11: Known for multi crore MGNREGA scandals wherein crores of rupees had been fraudulently withdrawn from majority of the Districts in the state, the Rural Development Department in Kishtwar District has once again come under scanner as hundreds of TV sets which were purchased for installation in panchayats, schools and hospitals have not reached the identified places.
As per the details available with ET, there are 134 Panchayats in Kishtwar District beside hundreds of schools, PHCs CHC and Public offices where the RDD department had to provide these TV sets but according to sources hardly few TV sets reached the identified places while majority of the TV sets purchased by the department worth several lacs were lost in oblivion.
Sources told ET that over 200 TV sets were purchased by the RDD Kishtwar without inviting any tender, quotations and were kept at the disposal of the Section Officer of Block Kishtwar.
The sources said that the TV sets for far off places like Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Padder, Bhunzwah and other far flung areas were given to influential people while majority of them were sold out to private persons, beside huge transportation charges had also been withdrawn on this account.
RDD was mandated to arrange Radio and TV sets for PM's "Maan Ki Baat" and PM's outreach program for students beside for watching the live speech of PM and President of India on Independence Day and Republic Day.
The department of RDD also refused to provide the information under RTI Act to one Khalid Hussain Dar who had sought the information from ACD Kishtwar with regard to purchase of TV sets by the RDD department Kishtwar during 2014-15 till date along with the certified copies of quotations, response received, comparative statement and supply orders approved by the higher ups.
The sources said that TV sets were purchased in other districts as well and possibility of similar scam can not be ruled out there.
The people are pinning hope on the Governor's administration for ordering probe into this major TV scandal in RDD Kishtwar.
