NC leader's son wants mandate from Hazratbal, threatens to join PC
1/12/2019 11:35:36 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 12: Son of a senior National Conference leader has reportedly threatened to join Peoples Conference if the party fails to give him mandate from Hazratbal constituency in Srinagar.
Sources told Early Times that the senior NC leader, who holds a powerful post in the party, is trying his best to pacify his son and is busy teaching him the lessons of "loyalty" but the son is adamant and has asked his father to take up the issue with the NC top brass.
Insiders revealed that the issue which till the recent past was between father and the son is being widely discussed within the party and it seems that everyone is aware about the tussle between the father and the son. "The son, who is being widely discussed in NC circles these days, was considered close to the former NC spokesman Junaid Mattu, who left NC and contested the municipal elections," they said.
Mattu presently is Mayor of the Srinagar city and he is emerging as inspiration for the NC leaders who have been sidelined by the party. Mattu, who went on to join Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone, is reportedly still in touch with the son of the NC leader and has advised him to join Peoples Conference for better future prospects.
Sources said that if the "powerful father" fails to convince the party top brass to give mandate to his son, he (father) may end up in a tight spot as his son seems determined to say goodbye to National Conference if the party keeps on treating him "shabbily."
Insiders revealed that there is lot of resentment brewing within the National Conference as the youth leaders are demanding that they should be given a chance to prove their mettle. "There is a notion within the party that old horses should be asked to relax and youth need to be given a chance so that NC gets revived," they said, adding, "After being ousted from power in 2014 most of the old and veteran leaders, except the NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah, have almost taken a back seat. Now these leaders are trying to make their presence felt as they are hoping that NC would once again come into power. On the other hand young leaders don't want these old horses to be on the driver's seat again. They want their share and if they are deprived of it they would be left with no other option other than to raise a banner of revolt against the party leadership."
