Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 20: Most of the mini-buses plying on various routes of Doda district are reportedly unfit for public transport as vehicles owners have managed fitness certificate from Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) allegedly in exchange of hefty amounts.
Reliable sources of told Early Times that most of the mini-buses, matadoors that are plying on Doda-Bhaderwah, Doda- Thatri, Doda-Bharath, Doda-Assar, Assar- Batote routes are very old and totally unfit for public transport but are still running after getting fitness certificate.
Sources alleged that the vehicles plying on these routes are over 25 years old. Only few Matadoors of these routes are in good condition but majority are totally unfit for public transport.
"As per law, those vehicles, which are over 20 years old, they have to get fitness certificate from ARTO office after every six months but many of the Matadoors owners didn't get the certificate and run the buses with active connivance of the owners with administration", sources said, adding that most of the Vehicles have been registered with some of the influential transporters, who have good political connections and even Traffic police officials, didn't dare to stop these vehicles for verification.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Rajesh Gupta was not available for comments.
