Decision to rotate assembly seats leaves candidates guessing
1/21/2019 11:11:19 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 21: Decision of the Governor's administration to rotate the reserved seats in the State Legislative Assembly has put the political parties in a tight spot as the aspiring candidates are unsure about their constituencies.
Even as top leaders of the mainstream political parties are holding programmes and public meetings, there is no enthusiasm among the candidates due to uncertainty over their constituency.
The situation can be gauged from the fact that the aspiring candidates are not even agreeing to the proposals of top leaders to hold public meetings in their respective areas.
A public meeting of Congress party at Ramgarh, which was to be held on Tuesday, was to be addressed by JKPCC president G A Mir but the event was cancelled at the last moment as the Congress district president and aspiring Congress candidate Manjit Singh expressed his inability to organize the event.
Almost similar is the case with BJP and National Conference. Both the parties are organizing programmes only at headquarters despite the fact that only two months are left for preparations if the Assembly polls are held alongwith Lok Sabha polls in the state. "It is foolish to exhaust money and man power in organizing public functions till a final decision on rotation of Assembly seats is taken by the Governor's administration," said a aspiring candidate.
Sources said that even BJP is not certain over rotation of reserved seats though the party has publically favoured the same.
Pertinent to mention that rotation of seven reserved Assembly constituencies will decide the fate of 14 candidates from Jammu province. Presently, the reserved constituencies are Samba, Hiranagar, R S Pura, Domana, Chenani, Ramban and Khour.
