SKUAST-J to hold national conference on Women Empowerment

Jammu, Feb 4: Society for Integrated Development of Agriculture, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences (SIDAVES) in collaboration with SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir is organizing two days National Conference on Women Empowerment through agro entrepreneurship for livelihood security 07th - 08th February 2019 at Main Campus Chatha of SKUAST-Jammu. Director Research SKUAST-J and Convenor of the Conference Dr. J.P. Sharma while expressing about equal rights / opportunities of women informed that women empowerment has assumed global significance in view of various international initiatives / commitments taken by the world community. He further emphasized that the empowerment / autonomy of women and the improvement of women's social, economic, political status is essential for the achievement of both transparent / accountable government and sustainable development in all areas of life. Organising Secretary Dr. Shalini Suri expressed that women are facing threats to their lives, health and well-being as a result of being overburdened with work and lack of power / influence. Dr Vikas Sharma President Teaching Association and Co- Convenor Media Committee informed that this two days National event will comprising of 12 sessions in which about 500 scientists / scholars from various Universities and different ICAR Institutions of the country are expected to participate and make contributions to the conference in their areas of expertise through their research findings. The event will mark lead lectures, oral presentations and poster presentations. Leading woman entrepreneurs and farmers who will be identified as outstanding and source of motivation will be appreciated through awards. Dr. Vivak M. Arya and Dr. Narinder Panotra also briefed the media that the conference will have thorough exploration on different areas of agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and social sciences to score for avenues to women empowerment. Secondary agriculture and tertiary enterprises are job oriented, have revolutionary potential and more amenable to feminization so will have focal attention for employment generation and adoption by women as commercial ventures.
