BSP-SP Bonhomie in UP
Omkar Dattatray2/9/2019 10:32:35 PM
It is an established fact that the key to Delhi's throne is the Hindi heartland of UP and therefore all political parties including the Pan India political parties naturally give much importance and credence to the election battles in UP and in Bihar. BSP-SP the archrivals who were fighting each other have now forged an alliance just to keep Modi juggernaut in 2019 general elections at bay. BSP-SP bonhomie is a far reaching political development and it cannot be discounted as it may leave its effects upon the elections of 2019 but given the fact that BJP is a formidable challenge, it will not be able to dent BJP's image. The fact that congress has been kept away from the alliance is the only solace for BJP and a plus point for it. Poll time alliances are not a new phenomenon but in Indian politics it has come to stay from last some decades. But the way BSP-SP alliance has taken place in UP and the way it has kept Congress away which is the champion of grand alliance out of UP alliance between BSP-SP is surprising as well as disturbing. But the fact remains that UP along with the state of Bihar are the two states which elect 80 and 40 M.P's respectively to the Lok Sabha and hence their importance in government formation at centre is anybody's guess. It has been seen that the political party which gets majority of MP's from UP form government at the centre level. Thus, all eyes are set on UP's political scenario and the current alliance of BSP-SP which is supposed to take on the BJP in general elections of 2019. The BSP-SP's unprecedented alliance and their seat sharing of 38 Lok Sabha seats to each of the parties and leaving only 2 seats to other smaller regional parties is a historical development as per the opinion of Mayawati, who is called Bahenji by the supporters and even by her adversaries. But keeping congress away from this regional alliance seems to be a setback to the grand alliance of the opposition parties which is still in the making and has yet not taken a final shape. Small regional alliances or the so called grand alliance of the national and the regional political parties is only aimed at to keep BJP away from reaching again to the centre stage and forming a BJP led NDA government after the upcoming elections. Thus, have all the political parties who matter and also those who do not have any mass following and popularity are aligning with each other just to defeat one man who calls himself Prandhan Sevek. The sole aim of these Gathbandhan's and so called Mahagathbandhan's is only to keep Modi away to form a government in 2019. Mayawati, the Superemo of BSP after aligning with her arch political rival SP has said that this alliance of BSP-SP will not only be for the Lok Sabha elections only but will also continue in the assembly elections in U.P, though the fact is that state elections in U.P are far away. But as is the history of BSP-SP coalition politics and alliances, it has not yielded results in the past and the electors cannot take the present alliance at its face value because in the past the BSP has walked out of the alliances and the current bonhomie may also be a failed experiment but thanks to the only motive of the alliance partners of dislodging the efforts of the BJP to win in 2019 elections. Thus, it is crystal clear that it is all versus BJP in 2019 elections but it seems that the developmental narrative and the achievements of the so called Hindu national party BJP will definitely damage the political prospectus of the SP-BSP alliance and they will not be able to dent the image and prospectus of the BJP in upcoming elections. It follows that the aim of these smaller regional alliances or the so called grand alliance is not development of the country and addressing and solving the mundane issues of bare existence and bread and butter but they by hook or by crook are bent on nullifying the BJP's efforts to form government again at the centre. Thus, development societal, human and economic seems to be non-issues and non-priorities for these small and big alliances and reaching to Delhi-throne is the only objective of these parties and this historical alliance of the arch rivals who were poles apart and were bitter political opponents are seeming to have sunk their ideological differences if at all they have an ideology and have come together to dent the prospectus of the BJP and the only unifying factor for these parties who are power hungry are desperately trying to somehow gain an upper hand in the upcoming elections. But the country's voters are shrewd enough to see through their game plan and they will be on the side of development and prosperity and will further give boost to the slogan and practical message of Modi's Sab ka Saath Sab Ka Vikas. Thus, the ensuing elections will be fought on the basis of development and not on caste and communal basis. But then the majority of Indian's want a grand temple to be built at the birth place of lord Ram but amicably with the support of the Muslim brethren. Thus, the voters while voting for development and for Sadak, Bijli, pani and bread and butter also like the BJP led NDA government to pave way for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. Thus, while development will be the basic issue in 2019 general elections, construction of temple dedicated to lord Ram will also be an issue and thus the rulers should pay urgent attention towards this and ensure its construction for the mutual brotherhood and goodwill. The BSP-SP has formed an alliance but at the same time it has kept this alliance outside the Mahagathbandan and keeping Congress away from the regional alliance is not viable and good political option but for the political survival of BSP-SP. It is sad reflection on the pre poll alliance that the congress has been kept away while the fact is that the congress also has some presence in the state which is considered to be the gateway to Delhi. The only good point for Congress is that the SP-BSP alliance had stated that they will not field their candidates for Amethi and Rae-Bareli represented by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi respectively. BSP-SP alliance will have some impact upon the fortunes of BJP but keeping Congress away will weaken the position of the alliance. The fact is that the two arch rivals have forged an alliance for their own survival and not for the cause of state and nations development. It seems that the BSP-SP alliance has shown equi-distance both from BJP and Congress but in the ultimate analysis want to defeat Modi in 2019 elections. The BSP-SP alliance is opportunistic one and an unholy alliance like the PDP-BJP alliance which was the alliance of North Pole and South Pole and this failed in its deliverance and broke in the mid way. It is to be seen which way the wind blows given the fact of the BSP-SP bonhomie in UP and its effect if any at national politics.
