NHM strike: Rohit Seth, Dr Raman on fast-unto-death; Agitation intensified
2/9/2019 10:33:38 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 9: The National Health Mission Employees Association today intensified its agitation to press the government for fulfilment of their demands, with the Association's Jammu President Rohit Seth and Dr Raman starting a fast-unto-death.
In wake of lukewarm response from the authorities and coercive approach of certain officers in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, the employees threatened to take the protest to next level. Hundreds of employees today assembled at Press Club Jammu to hold protests with placards in hands, raising slogans in favour of regularisation of their services.
"Instead of resolving our grievances which have been upheld by Supreme Court of India, the authorities are busy trying to break our resolve through threats and intimidation. If this approach continues, we may further take the protest to next level", said Association President, Jammu, Rohit Seth.
The employees are demanding regularisation of services for those of them having completed 7 years of services or implementation of SC orders of Equal Work Equal Pay along with social security benefits.
"It is very unfortunate some officers are resorting to misinformation campaign on social media to provoke the people and create adverse perception against the employees", said Kashmir Divisional President Muneer Andrabi, adding that if the authorities continue with their coercive tactics and pressurize employees by giving termination notice they will be left with no other choice but to intensify the agitation further.
"Being sensitive to the situation, the Association is open to relaxation in strike on voluntary basis wherever required/asked for. Hence the perception that we are not concerned about people is misguided and an attempt to malign the image of the employees in the eyes of common public", Muneer Andrabi said, "and if govt is serious about common public then why govt is silent from 25 days? Why didn't they care for common public from last 25 days. It is just delaying tactics". The authorities are dilly dallying our issues to gain time. "The code of conduct is on its way. We want our demands redressed before that. We shall go to any extent to achieve our objectives", said a doctor.
The Association officer bearers said we are not interested in making people suffer and that Association has already exhibited flexibility wherever administrators have approached us. "Employees will instantly return to their duties provided the government takes our issues seriously and makes a commitment of resolution of our demands in a time bound manner at the highest level", they added.
