PDP rebel seeks Ghar Wapsi, faces unexpected hurdles from other leaders
Is PDP all set to battle yet another rebellion?
2/9/2019 11:42:16 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 9: Once again the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is battling an internal rebellion with few of its senior leaders vehemently opposing the ghar Wapsi of one of the PDP's former rebels.
As per the sources privy to the development, there are hectic attempts being made by the former PDP rebel and a present Congress leader to make his entry possible once again into the party that according to him he has built Brick by Brick.
Such a decision has been taken by the rebel in question because he is feeling left out in Congress and thinks that he is still being considered as an outsider in the party. His apprehensions only got cemented when Congress party passed a unanimous resolution and made former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as the face of the party during the upcoming polls.
As per the sources, the leader in question was making hectic efforts to become the face of Congress during the polls and even was eyeing the post of Chief Ministerial candidate within the party. However with Azad's entry into the state politics again, his hopes got dashed to the core.
Meanwhile, at present he is weighing the options of making his entry into PDP possible again so that he could regain the lost ground. However, what is acting as a major hurdle in this process is the legislator and few of latter's political associates in the process.
They as per the sources are opposing his reentry into the PDP, asking the party to recall the anti- party activities in which the leader got indulged when he upped the ante against the PDP.
Pertinently, what were termed as crucial elections in Srinagar were of the Lok Sabha bypolls in the year 2017. The leader in question even failed to make an impact as the PDP, whom he had divorced, secured lead in his home turf Batmaloo. Farooq Abdullah with his support secured 2119 votes from Batmaloo while as on the other hand PDP got 2362 votes, securing a lead of 243 votes. Both Congress, which this leader had joined in 2016, and National Conference who fought the Srinagar parliamentary by polls jointly had expected him to garner support for Abdullah.
As top Congress leadership had felt betrayed over the PDP rebel's dismal performance at his own hometown and were tight lipped over such a pathetic performance by the one who used to claim wider support in Srinagar.
The stature of this PDP rebel within the Congress at that time only begun to witness a downfall.
Now with Azad taking the lead in the party, this leader is preferring Ghar Wapsi so that he could somehow manage to keep his political career alive. However, what remains to be seen is whether the PDP leaders who are opposing his entry will allow him to let in anytime soon.
For now, the PDP leadership doesn't want to sow any seeds of discord as it is yet to come out of the rebellion that shook it soon after the coalition fell apart. One after the other, no less than eight of its leaders bid adieu to the party.
