JAMMU, Feb 10: In order to make residents of Jammu aware of the new techniques used in knee replacement surgeries, expert from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals organised a health awareness program today in Jammu by Dr Yash Gulati, Senior Consultant, Orthopaedics Department
Talking about knee pain and its recovery methods, Dr Yash Gulati, Senior Consultant, Orthopaedics Department, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals said, "Knee pain is a common ailment among the elderly and if left untreated it leaves the person with a prolonged state of discomfort and pain. While there are several treatment procedures available today but only a few offer a long-lasting cure. Knee replacement is one such method, which does not only assure a long-lasting cure, but with advancement in its technology, it has become cost effective as well as comparatively pain-less, requiring less post-operative care."
"Among the several options available for knee surgery, one of the cost-effective as well as patient-friendly options is Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), which is designed to provide immediate relief and address the root cause of the pain. It is a successful treatment, which has delivered on the expectations of the patients as well as the doctors for providing a lasting cure. TKA is used by surgeons not only for providing relief from regular knee pain at the old age, but also for curing deformities such as unnatural curve and other issues in the knee,"Dr Yash Gulati further added. Talking about Computer-assisted knee replacements, Dr Yash Gulati said, "The computer-assisted navigation has improved the accuracy of joint alignment, it has also extended the life of the implants, increasing the accuracy of soft tissue balance during surgery and creating a more natural-feeling prosthetic knee. Some of the benefits of this procedure are less bleeding, less chances of embolism or obstruction of an artery, typically by a clot of blood or an air bubble.
