Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 10: The fate of the poor and the marginalized labour class working in building construction seems to be hanging in balance as thousands of marriage assistance cases and hundreds of death cases are pending disposal as the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board failed to hold meet.
The concerned officials who are responsible to hold timely meeting for disposal of cases and other issues of building construction workers seem totally indifferent.
Sources informed that there are approximately 2500 marriage cases of the wards of the workers that have been submitted with the board for marriage assistance and around 200 death cases of the workers yet to be cleared.
"The Chief Executive Officer of Building Construction Welfare Board has to look after the affairs of the board and it is his duty to organize meeting timely and the CEO has to inform the Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment about the Board's meeting. As per rules, the concerned minister is the Chairman of the Board who chair the meeting but in absence of the popular government, the concerned advisor is the chairman," they said.
If sources are to be believed that the concerned advisor was not showing willingness to chair the meeting as he was of the opinion that he doesn't possess ministerial powers and later an order was issued in this connection by the Governor but yet no meeting has been held. "Rs 25,000 is provided in marriage assistance and in death case Rs 2,00,000 is paid to the family of deceased worker," they said further adding that the delay in holding cases, the fillies have started piling up in Jammu division with each district having pendency of over thousand case related to various categories of financial aid despite availability of money to the tune over Rs 400 crore in its kitty received through cess levied by the Government on various constructions works in the State.
