'Stop Sgr-Jmu (durbar) move to allow officialdom to stay in Srinagar in winters': Asma Lone
2/10/2019 11:46:23 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 10: Wife of PC's chief and former minister Sajad Lone and daughter of JKLF founder Asma Khan Lone is not happy with the government. The reason is that the government has announced that the newly-created Ladakh Division will have its headquarters at Leh, and not in Kargil. She, like many others, has pitched for an arrangement that vouches for two headquarters, one each at Leh and Kargil, so that the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Ladakh, remains functional for six months at Leh and for 6 months in Kargil.
However, her suggestion of rotational Divisional Commissioner or suggestion that his office should be moved from Leh to Kargil and back has not been liked by some in Kashmir. They have argued that "Durbar move between Srinagar and Jammu is already a burden on state exchequer and our already debt ridden state economy cannot bear the brut of one more Durbar move…Durbar move is nothing but a naïve old practice of Maharaja's that costs heavy on state exchequer, let the Srinagar be permanent capital of J&K and let's save 100s of crores if not thousans".
The adverse response to the suggestion of Asma Lone made her rethink. In fact, she endorsed the suggestion of the critic of the practice of darbar move and said: "True. So let's stop Srinagar-Jammu move. Allow officialdom to stay in Srinagar taakey unkey bhi dimag thikaaney ajaein and people's grievances too addressed".
What Asma and those who suggested that Srinagar should be made permanent capital of J&K said should clinch the whole issue and indicate the direction they want J&K to take.
