'Kashmiri leaders playing dirty politics, pitting people against each other'
2/11/2019 11:54:36 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 11: Kashmir centric politicians are trying to pit Kargil and Ladakh regions against each other. Since the day Ladakh has been given the divisional status Kashmiri politicians are claiming that its injustice with the people of Kargil and headquarters should be rotated.
"All the Kashmir centric parties, including National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Conference and others, have upped the ante and are trying to send a message to Kargil people that they should agitate to get their demand fulfilled," an analyst told Early Times.
He said, "It's unfortunate that Kashmir centric politicians are trying to divide the people of Kargil and Ladakh on the religious lines and trying to tell them that they have been ignored for other reasons. These politicians should stop playing the dirty games and allow Ladakh and Kargil regions to progress. When these politicians were in power they tried their best to keep people of both these regions subservient to Kashmir. They just ignored the pleas of the people of both these regions and treated them as second grade citizens. Today they are trying to project themselves as the saviors of the Kargil people."
A Kashmir watcher said that on one hand they are welcoming the divisional status to Ladakh but on the other hand they are "instigating" the people of Kargil to come out on the streets. "Every attempt is being made by the Kashmir centric politicians to give a communal twist to the situation. Even the separatists have taken a cue from these politicians and they too have started making noise. It looks like that the mainstream politicians are following the agenda of the separatists in the Valley," he added.
A politician said that "On the other hand PDP leaders have become active in Chenab Valley and Pir Panchal region. They are also trying to create a communal divide in these areas by raking up the issue of bifurcation of the Jammu region."
He said that these leaders should realize that Pir Panchal and Chenab Valley are the natural parts of the Jammu region and these cannot be separated from Jammu. "These politicians should stop pitting people of Kargil against Ladakh and need to stop worrying about natural parts of the Jammu region. They think that they can garner votes by resorting to such tactics and would be able to hoodwink the people again. They need to bear in mind that dirty politics never pays," the politician added.
