| Home Minister Rajnath Singh sends strong message to separatists | | Asks security agencies to cut down their security, directs for restriction of civilian vehicles during convoy movement | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, Feb 15: Home Minister Rajnath Singh today sent a strong message to the separatists and said that their security would be reviewed following Thursday's Lethpora-Pulwama Fidayeen attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy.
The Home Minister said that movement of civilian vehicles would be restricted for some time as and when some convoy of security forces is passing through a particular area. He regretted that same would cause some problems for the civilians but said that same is imperative in order to ensure that there is no disturbance during the movement of security forces convoy.
Addressing a press conference, Rajnath Singh said that he has asked the officers to review the security provided to people taking money from Pakistan and its intelligence agency ISI. He said the security being provided to the separatists would be reviewed following the Thursday's militant attack.
"There are some elements that are hand in glove with militant organizations and ISI across the border. They are involved in conspiracies too. They are toying with the future of the people, especially the youth of Jammu & Kashmir," he said. The Home Minister said that the nation will not forget the supreme sacrifice of CRPF personnel.
Rajnath Singh said civilian traffic would be stopped during the movement of army and other forces' convoys. "In the wake of suicide attack on CRPF convoy yesterday, it has been decided that the civilian movement will be stopped for some time when a large convoy of security forces passes through an area," said Singh.
In the aftermath of Thursday's Lethpora-Pulwama Fidayeen attack Home Minister today visited Srinagar. The Home Minister chaired the unified command meeting, visited the injured Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel at a hospital and attended the wreath laying ceremony of the killed CRPF personnel.
Reports said that Rajnath Singh reached the Recruitment Training Centre (RTC) at Humhama in the outskirts of Srinagar city and attended the wreath laying ceremony of CRPF personnel killed in the Fidayeen attack at Lethpora-Pulwama on Thursday. He in fact lent a shoulder to the coffin of one of the killed CRPF personnel.
Shortly after arriving from Delhi, the Home Minister attended a solemn function here where the remains of 40 CRPF personnel were kept in coffins, draped with tricolour. Singh helped carry the coffin of a slain CRPF man before it was flown out of Jammu and Kashmir in a special aircraft. The dignitaries stood in silence till the coffins were loaded in a truck which went to the Srinagar airport.
The Home Minister along with Governor Satya Pal Malik, Home Secretary Rajeev Gauba, Director General CRPF, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, Director General of Police, Dilbagh Singh and other senior security as well as administrative officials took part in the wreath laying ceremony of slain CRPF personnel. Tributes were paid to the CRPF personnel and it was vowed that strong reply would be given to the militants and their handlers.
Rajnath Singh visited the 92 Base Hospital of the army at Badami Bagh, Sonwar and enquired about the well being of the injured CRPF personnel. He interacted with some of the personnel of the force and lauded their role in fighting militancy in Kashmir. He conveyed his wishes to the CRPF personnel and wished them speedy recovery. He talked to some of the doctors and got details from them regarding injuries to CRPF personnel.
The Home Minister chaired the Unified Command meeting in the afternoon and took a brief about the overall security scenario emanating after the Lethpora Fidayeen attack. The meeting was attended by Governor Satya Pal Malik, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Advisor to Jammu & Kashmir Governor, K Vijay Kumar and other security as well as intelligence chiefs. The meeting took review of the security situation especially after the Lethpora Fidayeen attack.
It would be in place to mention here that 49 CRPF personnel were killed after a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant rammed his explosives-laden car into a force convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Lethpora area of Pulwama. The bus was part of a convoy of 78 vehicles CRPF travelling from Jammu to Srinagar. |
