Unemployed youth castigate casual approach of Higher Education department
Despite furnishing affidavit, over 120 contractual lecturers manage extension
2/21/2019 10:45:46 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 21: The alleged casual approach of Higher Education department has resulted in the extension of services of over 120 contractual lecturers for academic arrangement despite the fact that all have furnished an affidavit for not claiming any regularization.
Sources informed Early Times that with the each successive year the number of contractual lecturers engaged on academic arrangement basis and securing status-quo has been increasing.
These contractual lecturers have furnished an affidavit attested by first class magistrate for not claiming any regularization of services. "It is upon the department to defend their case in the court of law but due to casual approach of the lawyers engaged by department, the contractual lecturers managed stay from court", an official said, adding that the number of contractual lecturers managing stay have been increasing with each passing year.
A Ph.D scholar said that there seemed a nexus between the lawyers engaged by department with the contractual lecturers. "After getting some benefits from the contractual lectures the lawyers failed to plead the case persuasively in the court of law, benefiting the contractual lecturers", he alleged.
He further said that if the department would not persuasively take up the matter the number of contractual lecturers managing stay would ultimately pile up. "There will be no contractual recruitment of lecturers in higher education department if most of them secure stay from court", the scholar said, adding that the department should change the lawyers engaged so that the issues would be taken up vigorously.
An official of department pleading anonymity said that it was not the fault of the department or the lawyers engaged. "We have got a lot of cases dismissed by the court and in some cases the court has given judgment in favour of department. Still the contractual lecturers knock the door of court and manage stay", the officer said, adding that due to long pendency of court cases, such situation has arisen in the department.
