SRINAGAR, Mar 21: Charar-I-Sharief constituency located in the Central Kashmir's Budgam district has come up as a favourite place for violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) that has been enforced in the country in view of Lok Sabha elections. Sources told Early Times that some of the senior leaders of National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are violating the MCC with impunity. They said that these leaders are using dirty tricks to lure the voters in the upcoming parliamentary polls. Sources said that some of the former legislators of both these mainstream parties are trying their best to motivate the voters so that they vote for the party candidate in the Lok Sabha polls. They said the district administration have so far taken no action in this regard.
"Former MLAs of NC and PDP are distributing electric poles along with the wires in different areas of the Charar-I-Sharief constituency. All this is being done to lure the people to vote for the two leading mainstream regional parties of Jammu & Kashmir," said sources.
Sources said that besides this the former legislators are also distributing transformers to their supporters in the constituency. They said these acts are being carried out in violation of the MCC and the district administration has so far failed in taking action against the violators of law.
"The MCC is being violated without any impunity by the leaders belonging of both the NC and PDP. The gullible people are being promised moon and stars in the name of elections and they are being ditched by the mainstream politicians. The district administration should take a note and take the corrective measures," said sources. In the previous assembly the Charar-I-Sharief was represented by Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura). Hanjura turned out to be giant killer in the 2014 assembly elections as he defeated Abdul Rahim Rather of National Conference. Rather had represented the assembly constituency for the past so many decades.
The violation of MCC by the political parties is nothing new in the state since similar complaints have poured in from many areas of the state. Complaints have been lodged against the different political parties with regard to violation of MCC. The Election Commission of India is yet to take action against the political parties violating the MCC.
