Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Ex-Services League (JKESL) Governing Council meeting was held at Zila Sainik Welfare Complex Ambphalla Jammu.
All the District Presidents Governing Council Members and some invited guests attended the meeting. During the meeting many problems facing by the Ex-Servicemen were discussed as they feel totally ignored in the State for the last 70 years e.g. the issue of Sainik Colony Srinagar was highlighted which was accepted by two Chief Ministers and even the area allotted near the airport Srinagar.
However it was denied by the third Chief Minister, Mehbooba and till date there is no progress. Even the then Governor NN Vohra in whose meetings all these decisions were taken did not come to their rescue. Similarly two housing colonies sanctioned at Jammu by the Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah in1997 have not seen the light of the Day even after 20 years.
All the issues connected with the Ex-Servicemen face apathy. Whether it is reservations in the police or revival of the prestigious Sainik Vanaspati cooperative even with 97 percent equity by the State, are all unsettled just because it belongs to the Ex-servicemen and it is in Jammu.
The Ex-Servicemen are harassed for issue/renewal of weapon licenses, 6 percent entitled reservation in jobs are not given particularly in the police. Not a single soldier has found enrolment in the police during the last 35 years when the police force has increased from 35000 to nearly 1 Lahk. No State level facilities like job/ education reservation for wards are available to war widows, the War wounded and the brave warriors who are paid poor annuities far lower than the other states like Punjab, Haryana and HP. Although J&K receives maximum Central Govt. aid and is witness to maximum sacrifices of Security Forces personnel. Finding no hope in the elected leaders, the Ex-servicemen are now pinning their hopes on the Governor who has taken some hard decisions recently and implemented them with speed.
During the meeting the Veterans conveyed their appreciation to the Security Forces for their achievements including the Surgical Air Strikes at Balakot. Veterans also thanked Brig Manmohan Harjai and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Narayana Super Speciality Hospital for the empanelment for ECHS.
