POONCH, Mar 25: The Poonch roads were blacktopped during the previous regime with the hope that the roads would last at least three years. The administration had directed the concerned to construct roads with 75 mm specification but in many areas the directions were ignored and the roads narrate the story of neglect and indifference of the authorities.
The surface of PWD road at Bagh Deodi is in bad shape. Likewise, major portions of road around Bus stand are dilapidated.
The condition of the roads reflects that the PWD has compromised on the quality and as a result, few tainted PWD officials built lavish bungalows in various parts of the district and state by earning money through illegal means.
The compromising nature of blacktopping work in many areas of Poonch district has raised a question mark on the intentions of PWD officials. Locals have started questioning those officials of the PWD Poonch under whose supervision, the blacktopping work was carried out.
Locals said that if quality of work is exposed within days of blacktopping, then government must take action against the concern officials of the PWD because people are feeling cheated. Locals also questioned the role of SE PWD, Xen PWD, AEE and JE's over the matter. |
