Villagers lock school to protest over staff shortage

KARGIL, Mar 25: Villagers of Brok lankerchey in Kargil region of on Monday locked government run-middle school to register protest against the shortage of teaching staff. The Local Village Education committee (VEC) said that the school was upgraded in 2007; however adequate staff hasn't been posted in the school.
"School was upgraded as Middle School in 2007 and seven posts were sanctioned but still only three Rehber-e-Taleem teachers are presently working," they said.
Committee members said that condition of school is 'pathetic' and shortage of teaching staff is affecting the children enrolled in the school. "Teachers who are supposed to teach students here in this school have been shifted and posted in others schools," they said.
Villagers said that they had conveyed this problems to higher-ups of the education department multiple times that their repeated pleas weren't heard.
"Our application was marked and ZEO Sankoo was asked to provide details about the number of students and teachers posted but he refused to provide details to his senior officers.
Villagers sought help from Governor Satya Pal Malik and requested him to get the issue resolved by posting three more teachers in the school.
