Congress unwilling to seek help from PDP in Lok Sabha poll
3/28/2019 10:49:34 PM
Though the Congress leaders feel comfortable with the deci
sion of the PDP not to field any candidates from the two Lok Sabha seats in the Jammu region its (Congress) leadership is skeptical about involving the PDP leaders in its campaign for the two Lok Sabha seats in the Jammu region. The Congress is wise enough to feel that at the national level the Congress is being opposed by the BJP and hence the Congress leaders may not involve the PDP leaders in the campaign for the Lok Sabha seats on the plea that PDP has lost its luster by forging an alliance with the BJP to head the coalition Government. Even as PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has announced the decision not to field any party candidate from the two Lok Sabha seats of the Jammu province to avoid the division of "secular votes", Congress candidates are hesitating to involve PDP leaders in the campaign, fearing backlash from voters.People of the Jammu region have not taken kindly the recent statements of top PDP leaders in support of the Jamaat-e-Islami and JKLF. So, involving them in our campaign in most areas would prove to be counter-productive,is the attitude of the Congress, It is said the Congress party leadership was in a dilemma over directly involving PDP leaders in electioneering.
To restore its lost ground in the Kashmir valley, PDP leaders are out to appease separatists by issuing highly provocative statements. Hence, involving them in the campaign would provide an opportunity to the BJP to exploit the situation. While filing their nomination papers, the Congress candidates made it a point to take National Conference leaders with them, but they have avoided involving PDP leaders. Congress candidate Raman Bhalla, along with party leaders, addressed a series of public meetings in the Nowshera Assembly segment of Rajouri district, but PDP leader Surinder Choudhary was conspicuously missing during the rallies.During the 2014 Assembly elections, Choudhary was the runner-up from this Hindu-majority constituency and had secured over 28,000 votes.
The Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency is going to witness a contest between BJP candidate Jugal Kishore Sharma and Congress nominee Raman Bhalla.Raman Bhalla has been a minister during the Congress-NC coalition Government and that he has initiated various development projects in Jammu is a plus point. Against this Jugal Kishore Sharma, whether as a member of the power Board has failed to help people from the bad effects of load shedding and has ,failed to come up to the expectations of people of the Jammu-Poonch constituency In the last LokSabha elections the seats was won by the PDP candidate,Yash Pal Sharma.
This way Raman Bhalla has an edge over his rival from the BJP.Soft-spoken Raman Bhalla has been the crusader for the Congress and helped his congress candidates to wi n from Jammu in the Assembly poll. Jugal Kishore Sharma is awaiting help from Modi and he should know that this time Modi's wave is over with the bad performance of the BJP ministers
