Ban on JKLF justified | | | Omkar Dattatray
Finally centre govern ment has woken from deep slumber and has done what it ought to have done much earlier but as they say, better late than never. Therefore, the decision of banning JKLF is a right decision taken in the interest of the national security. So the ban by the Home Ministry is the good step and it should follow arrests of all the activists of JKLF and their speedy prosecution and exemplary punishment. The perpetrators of the secessionism, separatism, death and violence should not be spared come what may. Otherwise there is no purpose of the ban on this separatist organization which is responsible for the rise of militancy, mayhem, violence and separatist and fissiparous tendencies in J&K read Kashmir in the hay days of militancy in the end of 1989 and in the year 1990 and thereafter as well. JKLF is responsible for the killing of many Kashmiri Pandit leaders and even common KPs in the early years of militancy which led to forced exodus of about 7 lakh KPs and forced them to live as refugees in their own country. Not only KPs but they are responsible for the killings of four air force men in 1990 which led to fear psychosis in J&K. Ban on JKLF will be meaningful only when those responsible for killings of many innocent KPs and other civilians will be punished for their sin of killing innocents. One of JKLF activists Bita Karatey has boasted of killing scores of KPs in Kashmir and height is that he is not prosecuted and is yet to be given punishment for his heinous crime of murdering Kashmiri Pandits which he himself accepted but he is still at large. KP's have rightly hailed the decision of the centre government to ban JKLF and they hoped that the perpetrators of secessionism and the killers of innocent KPs will be brought to book and punished for their wrong doings. But the ban on JKLF and Jamait-e-Islami should not be only an election gimmick but it should be implemented at the ground zero and all those who are found involved in killings and exodus of KPs should be prosecuted for their sin of killing KPs which is unpardonable and no alibi of democracy and so called human rights should become a reason to go slow on the punishment of activists of JKLF who have and are even today openly supporting secessionism, separatism and militancy in Kashmir. They are also providing support and financial assistance to the stone pelters as well and so deserve no leniency. Thus the ban of JKLF, Jammat-e-Islami and other proscribed terrorist organizations should not become paper tigers only but should be followed by proper implementation and execution on the ground so that perpetrators of secessionism, terrorism and those whose hands are socked with innocent human blood be brought to justice. Centre has rightly and justifiably banned Yasin Malik-led JKLF on 24th of March, 2019 for its involvement in a series of anti-national and anti-human activities. All patriotic forces of the country have appreciated the ban on JKLF by the centre government. Union Home secretary Rajeev Gauba has said that the outlawed organization JKLF was and is in the forefront of separatist activities in the terrorist hit state since close of 1989. He further said that Malik was the master mind behind the purging of KPs from Kashmir valley and is also responsible for their genocide. The ban by centre on JKLF is the candid expression by Union home secretary and is the vindication of Kashmiri Pandits genocide at the hands of JKLF ranks and its head Yasin Malik. At the outset it is pertinent to throw light on the origin and activities of JKLF and its historical background. The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) is a banned organization founded by Amamullah Khan and Makbool Bhat. Originally a militant wing of the Plebiscite Front, it changed its name to JKLF in Brimingham, England on 29th of May, 1977. From then until 1994 it was an active militant organization. Yasin Malik led JKLF is one the factions of JKLF and is still active in Kashmir but it is projecting itself as a non violent organization and says it is following footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi's non violence. But it is wrong and fallacious. The organization has history of abductions, kidnappings, killings and mayhem at its back and rightly deserved to be banned and its activists prosecuted and punished. Separatist leader Yasin Malik was booked under PSA and shifted to Jammu jail. Yasin Malik is a prominent separatist leader in Kashmir and has been regularly put under house arrest for his anti national activities in the valley. The organization has been banned for its alleged role in promoting secessionist activities in the state. This is the second organization in the J&K which has been banned this month. Earlier centre has banned the Jammat-e-Islami J&K. PDP Supremo Mehbooba Mufti is against the ban on JKLF and she has said ban on Yasin Malik's JKLF will turn Kashmir into open air prison. She is irked whenever anti national and secessionist elements are arrested and their organizations banned but as usual Mehbooba Mufti sheds crocodile tears for them just to make it as a vote catching device and she always spits venom against the BJP government of the centre especially Narinder Modi and calls such policies as muscular policies. JKLF came in prominence when its members hijacked an Indian air lines plane flying from Srinagar to Jammu. JKLF was also involved in the kidnapping of Rubbya Sayeed, the daughter of the then Home Minister Late Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed in the hay days of militancy. Now that the centre government has followed policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and the security forces have been given free hand in dealing with the terrorism, it will bring a great respite to the peace loving innocent Kashmiris. JKLF Yasin faction has been made an unlawful association under the provisions of the section 3(1) of the unlawful activities (Prevention) act of 1967. JKLF is also involved in raising of funds and its distribution among Hurriyat cadres and stone pelters to fuel unrest in Kashmir valley. In nutshell ban on JKLF is right and correct decision but taken too late and now it is hoped that the ban will be taken to its logical conclusion and all the anti-national activists will be arrested and prosecuted and given punishment they deserve to instill confidence of people in the rule of law. |
