Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 17: The Agriculture Production Department has virtually become a stumbling block on the proposal of sanctioning of new faculties for Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences Jammu campus (SKUAST-J), which has been lingering since decade and awaiting former's nod.
Sources told Early Times that the proposal of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu for much required additional faculties and division including Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Dairy Technology and Division of Seed Science & Technology has been made hostage to the process of seeking repeated queries for the last one decade.
"The issue was deliberated for the first time in the 4th Academic Council of SKUAST-J in May 2005 and after the approval of Board of Management (BOM) in the same year in August 2005, it was formally submitted to Agriculture Production Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir and since then formal proposal is still awaiting nod of the Agriculture Production and Planning Department," they said further alleging that despite detailed and point-wise justification of the proposal as well as reply to all the queries the proposal has been biting dust due to apathy of concerned department.
They further said that the agricultural sector of Jammu region has been lagging behind in comparison to the neighboring states due to alleged discrimination by the successive as well as the incumbent governments by not introducing adequate faculties in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences Jammu campus while Agriculture University in Kashmir has been given faculties.
"The extent of discrimination can be gauged from the fact that the SKUAST Jammu has been running with two faculties including Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Veterinary Sciences from the last 18 years whereas SKUAST-K has been functioning with seven faculties. The SKUAST Jammu had been continuously struggling to get its due rights for which they were always deprived of since long," they said.
