Early Times Report
jammu, Apr 17: Despite incessant thrust from Union Ministry of Rural Development for construction of rural houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), the erstwhile coalition government failed to construct pucca house for rural poor.
As per the reliable data available with Early Times revealed that the three year in power since 2015, coalition government has miserably failed to achieve the target under the scheme as the state government succeeded to achieve only 19 percent target. "In last three consecutive years viz-a-viz 2016-2017, 2017-18 and 2018-19, the Union Rural Development Ministry gave approval for construction of 39,000 rural house under PMAY-G scheme but the state government has succeeded to complete only nearly 7200 houses in three year", the data revealed.
The data further revealed that the neighbouring state including Himachal Pradesh (HP) has higher pedestal to implement the scheme as against the set target of 7385 rural house, the state succeeded nearly completed 5771 houses (78%), while Punjab has succeeded only complete 32 percent and Harayana 40 percent rural houses, but only the J&K state has succeeded only construct 19 percent target, resulting most of the poor the state are still getting the benefits of the ambitious scheme.
It is pertinent to mention here that under the ambitious scheme, nearly one Crores pucca houses are targeted for construction over a period of three years from 2016-17 to 2018-19 after the reconstruction of erstwhile rural housing scheme Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) wherein 39000 houses were targeted for Jammu and Kashmir state but due to nonchalant attitude of official of rural development, the scheme is still implemented in letter and spirit.
Sources in rural development department informed that however, the slow pace of construction pucca houses were raised by various legislators during the District Development Board Meeting (DDBM) but due to lack of coordination among Directorate of Rural Development and lower rung official of department concerned, the target is still lingering on and thousands of rural poor yet to avail the facilities
