Fire Service week: Easy, poster competitions held on concluding day

JAMMU, Apr 20: Fire Service Week which started on April 14 concluded today with extempore, essay and poster competition held here at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium University of Jammu.
The event was organized by Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), J&K in collaboration with the University of Jammu and was sponsored by J&K Tourism Department.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Allahbad Dr. R.L. Hangloo was the chief guest on the occasion. Retired DGP, Dr. Ashok Bhan, HoD, Department of English Government College for Education Jammu, Prof. Shalini Rana, Principal, JK Group of Colleges and Director JK Education Societies, Shashi Choudhary, retired HoD Microbiology GMC Jammu, Dr. Bela Mahajan and renowned artists, T S Batra and Bhushan Kesar were also present on the occasion.
Around 63 students from Cluster University of Jammu and University of Jammu participated in the event. Dr Bhan and Shalini judged the extempore while Shashi Choudhary and Bela Mahajan judged the essay competition. The poster competition was judged by T.S. Batra, and Bushan Kesar.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Dr Hangloo appreciated the efforts of J&K Fire and Emergency Service Department to involve the students of colleges and universities to educate people with regard to safety of fire incidents and hoped that more and more youth should be sensitized in this field to save the precious lives and property.
In his welcome address, Director General F&ES, V K Singh highlighted awareness activities organized by the Department to educate the people about the safety measures during fire incidents. He congratulated the teams of fire services for conducting the weeklong sensitizing programmes smoothly and efficiently. He appealed general masses to follow the slogan of the year "fire prevention is better than fire fighting" to minimize the losses due to fire incidents.
The 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes in extempore competition were bagged by Rashmi Ranial of govt college for women parade, farheen khalid of GMC Jammu and Tazkia Khan of Jammu University respectively. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in essay competition were bagged by Dushyant Bhardwaj of Jammu University, Shivani Badyal of Jammu University and Roopambir Singh of GMC Jammu respectively. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes in poster competition were bagged by Pankhuri Aggarwal of Jammu University, Heena Zargar of Jammu University and Komal of School of Sciences Cluster University
Showkat Mehmood Joint Director Tourism, Mrs. Rashmi Wazir Commandant 2nd Bn SDRF Jammu, Tajinder Kour Deputy Controller Civil Defence Samba were felicitated for their immense support and cooperation in conducting the event successfully.
