LS polls: 8000 forms of migrants received in Anantnag

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 20: Over 8000 forms of migrants were received in Anantnag district which is part of Anantnag-Pulwama Lok Sabha Constituency which will go to polls in three phases starting on April 23.
Sources said that eight to ten thousand migrant voters will file M forms in other three districts of Kulgam Pulwama and Shopian going to polls in two remain phases in May.
Sources said going through the number of M forms filed in Anantnag and interest shown by migrants of other districts in democratic process, at least 15000 migrants can poll their votes in Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency which has a total number of 39000 migrant votes. It may be recalled 2100 migrants cast their vote in first phase in Baramulla Constituency out of total 22000 migrant voters while 2800 migrants cast their votes in Srinagar Constituency out of 39000 voters in second phase. However in view of rush during last week for filing of M forms for migrants up to April 23 it seems that there will be a good turn out of migrant voters in Anantnag Constituency and the candidate supported by them would have an edge over his opponents.
In previous Assembly elections the migrant votes tilted the balance in favour of various candidates. While all political parties including NC, PDP, Congress and BJP is eying on migrant votes, Congress candidate and PCC chief G A Mir along with senior party leaders held a meeting with migrants at Jammu making a fervent appeal to them to vote for him.
However no senior leader of other political parties from Constituency visited Jammu to seek migrants vote.
In case migrants poll about 15000 votes in Anantnag it will be a turning point for the political party to which they will support.
However the cumbersome process for migrant voters like filling up of M forms and completing other hassles has resulted in forcing majority of migrants to stay indoors.
