| Municipal waste, garbage dumped into river | | MC Qazigund bins SBM | |  Asif Iqbal Naik

Jammu, Apr 23: Defeating the very purpose and object of Swach Bharat Mission (SBM), the Qazigund Municipality dumps garbage and other waste into the river.
This sanitation campaign has been taken for a ride ' by the officials of urban local bodies in various towns of J&K, sources said..
In Qazigund town, the Municipal Committee (MC) is using tributary nalla of Vetvetru River in front of MC office on National Highway itself to dump all the municipal solid waste and animal carcasses and even latrine wastes.
"It is shameful that all waste material is being dumped in nalla just in front of MC office on National Highway, which is hazardous for the people living around as well as those using this water. The burning of the wastes on this location every night has made life hell for the residents/office employees living around," the locals said.
Pertinently the water from the nallah is supplied to more than hundred villages by department of PHE.
People took up this issue with Urban Local bodies several times, but they seem least bothered to address this issue, the locals said. |
