Rs 45 cr spent, but Doda-Barath road in shambles
Local allege funds misappropriation

Early Times Report

Doda, Apr 23: Inspite of spending crores of rupees on Doda-Barath road just 5 years back, the road is in a dilapidated condition and authorities seem to be least interested in undertaking repairs of this 28 km road stretch. Locals allege that funds spent on the road have been misappropriated
Details available with Early Times reveal that recent rainfall and winter snowfall has damaged Doda-Barath road at several places especially around Bari village. Local residents allege that there are mudslides on the road and till date the R&B division Doda has not even properly cleared the road.
Sources say that in 2015 more than Rs 45 crores were spent on the road on the direction of the then PWD Minister Abdul Majid Wani. But it is alleged that there was lot of misappropriation of funds
"If government has spent Rs 45 crores on the Doda-Barath road, how can this road be in a dilapidated condition within mere 4 years? We appeal investigating agencies to probe the issue and check whether the funds were properly utilized or not. We demand that this road should be immediately repaired at several places," said Shahab ul Haq, PDP district president for Doda.
As people of other parts of the state have been complaining that the government hasn't been able to fully macadamise roads in their respective districts, the Public Works Department (PWD) in Doda has only macadamised very few roads in Doda district from last few years.
Almost all internal roads in the hilly district are in a dilapidated condition and people are forced to commute in life-threatening situations. The macadamisation of roads, if any, has been done only inside Doda town and near the national highway while all internal roads are waiting for attention from the government. Potholes, landslides, damaged protection walls and muddy surfaces are omnipresent in Doda.
