Jammu, Apr 24: Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Chenab valley comprises of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban since yesterday.
Landslides, inundated roads and overflowing drains have made life difficult in Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas.
Fresh snowfall was recorded at high altitudes bringing temperature down significantly.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the worst affected areas due to rain water and flooded drains were Guldhali Chowk, Amar Market, Bhandari Mohallah, Kichloo Mohallah, Guriyan, Bunastan and Malik Market, Shaheedi Mazar. The people living in the area informed that the municipality roads and lanes have become a cause perpetual worry for them threatening their homes and property particularly as and when rains lash the area. As per the inhabitants, the under construction and outdated drains in the town have become a matter of concern for them and other people traveling in the town. They said that the road from Bus Stand to Kuleed Chowk lacks proper drainage and due to seasons first rainfall, the dirty and muddy water enter into their houses. The people urged upon the President Municipal Committee Kishtwar Raiz Ahmed Zarger to look into the matter and save them from day to day miseries which people suffered due to poor drainage. Similarly the inhabitants of Umar Mohallah also suffered due to non availability of proper drainage..
The drains near SSP office spill on Kishtwar main road near Sangrabata causes lot of inconvenience to the people.
The drains falling within Municipal limits of Kishtwar are filled up with mud and sand and have hardly been cleared from the silt since last two decades. The shopkeepers demanded immediate clearing of silt from drains so that such situations could be avoided in coming days during rainfall.
