Early Times Report
rajouri, Apr 24: An embezzlement of Rs 1.42 Cr has been surfaced in Rural Development Department in road construction wherein substandard material used which got damaged after one year of completion.
Sources told Early Times that RDD got constructed a road from Makol to Pazwali via Talika lar of Tehsil Sunderbani of District Rajouri with total length of Rs 3.75 kms during 2004-05 at the cost of Rs 1.42 Cr but the road was badly constructed as little amount of the total cost was spent and substandard material was used in the construction which led to immediate damage.
"Even the road which was constructed by RDD was not completed and left incomplete but on papers the road was shown completed. As per assessment, only 25 percent amount was spent on the road and rest of the amount was shared by the some corrupt officials of RDD," they informed.
They further said that the condition of road is so bad that even pedestrians face difficulties to traverse it which directly poses fingers on the RDD Rajouri on this embezzlement. It has been learnt that a local leader had also involvement in this embezzlement who also took monetary benefits in this scam.
Some officials in Public Works Department Rajouri informed that Early Times that in order to shield itself from the scam, the RDD know putting pressure on PWD to carry out repair work of the road, but the department has denied to do so by citing the reason that the road is not under its purview. Sources said that the ARTO Rajouri also inspected the road few days ago and expressed his serious concern over the bad condition of road and admitted that the stretch is not motor-able. Locals of area urged Governor to take action against erring officials and demanded that an inquiry of this scam be conducted from Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) so that corrupt officials of RDD should be booked under law.
