In Budgam, woman Tehsildar launches crusade against land grabbers

Budgam, May 2: A female Revenue officer recently posted as a Tehsildar in Budgam has launched a crusade against the local land mafia. What her male counterparts could not do in years, she did that in last few months. The officer has launched a massive crackdown on the land mafia in the district that was active from last several years by selling state land and wetland. On Thursday, the Tehsildar retrieved a large chunk of sate land in Bemina area near Rakh-e-Arath wetland by dismantling almost half a dozen illegal structures which include residential houses and some shops. Details available with Early Times reveal that on the direction of district administration Budgam, Tehsildar Nusrat Aziz along with a police party retrieved more than 10 kanals of state land in Bemina sector 11 which falls under the jurisdiction of Budgam tehsil. More than one dozen illegal structures including several under-construction shops and residential houses were raised to ground during the anti-encroachment drive. The area which is located near famous Rakh-e-Arath wetland had been in the news from last more than a year as the local land mafia was selling plots to people from the state land and kah charai. "The drive was only possible with the active support of Deputy Commissioner Budgam Dr Sehrish. We will continue our crusade against land mafia who are duping people by selling state land/wetland to them. I appeal people not to fall prey to these vested interested people," said Nusrat Aziz while talking to reporters at the site.
Pertinently, Nusrat had got dismantled some illegal structures at Sheikhpora, Budgam early last month and retrieved several kanals of state land in the area. The said state land was supposed to be developed into a public park but the officials of the Revenue department were not acting against the land grabbers. Local residents of Rakh-e-Arath and Bemina sector 11 have hailed the efforts of district administration Budgam particularly the lady Tehsildar.
During the drive some encroachers were apprehended by police and cases were registered against them under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code and J&K Land Revenue Act.
