PHE Sunderbani deprives school of water
Students travel 2 kms to quench their thirst

Early Times Report

RAJOURI, May 2: With the sheer negligence of Public Health Department (PHE) Sunderbani, the Government Middle School Thomba of zone Lower Hathal has been deprived of drinking water supply for years, as a result the students have to travel two kilometers to quench their thirst.
Sources told Early Times that it has been 20 years since the establishment of Government Middle School Thomba in Nallaha Panchayat, but till date school sans water supply connection despite repeated request to the concerned officials by the school authority. "There are only 40 students including boys and girls who study in this school, but in the name facility, these poor students even don't get portable water which is the basic necessary facility which has to be provided by the school authority," sources said. The school teachers informed that the Early Times that they have projected the demand before the concerned Zonal Education Officer and consequently the same was forwarded to Assistant Executive Engineer PHE, but no action was taken by the PHE to provide the water connection. "Although the Centre as well as state governments has strictly directed to provide water and toilet facility to government schools on priority basis, the PHE officials seem to least bother and have left the students without water facility," local residents said. When Early Times contacted the Executive Engineer PHE Nowshera in this regard, he said has been just posted here and will look into the matter seriously and seek a report from the AEE, and "appropriate action will be taken if they were found guilty."
Local residents alleged that these PHE officials always oblige influential and other VIPs of the area, but when it comes to the poor they out rightly ignore their requests due to which the poor students have been bearing the brunt of the careless officials of PHE. They appealed to the Governor to take action against erring officials who are indifferent towards the problems faced by school going students.
