5/3/2019 12:13:05 AM
Early Times Report

jammu, May 2: Evading his arrest since his assault on a female Sarpanch last week, former legislator RS Pura and National Conference leader Dr Gagan Bhagat was arrested Thursday from Janipur area of Jammu.
According to sources, Dr Bhagat was arrested from the High Court complex by Janipur police and handed over to RS Pura police. A case against Dr Bhagat was registered at police station RS Pura under section 354-B following a written complaint by the Sarpanch Seema Devi.
"The former MLA was evading his arrest since last Saturday after a case was registered following a scuffle between him and the female Sarpanch after they entered into an altercation during inauguration of a power transformer", said a police officer, adding that a case of assault on the female Sarpanch already stands registered.
The issue of assault on the Sarpanch had caught public attention when a video, in which Dr Gagan Bhagat, who recently joined the NC after being expelled from the BJP, was seen assaulting the Sarpanch.
The Sarpanches and Panches affiliated with All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) led by its president Anil Sharma had held protests in R S Pura demanding action against Dr Bhagat.
"We want the Governor and the DGP to take action against Bhagat. His security should be withdrawn. He is using his security to threaten the people," Sharma told reporters.
