Babu 's official vehicle used by wife, SMC employees seeks probe
5/3/2019 12:13:48 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 2: A senior official at the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has been accused of having given his official vehicle to his wife for personal use.
Sources said the SMC official had two sedans at his disposal but that he has given one to his wife for her "personal use and shopping etc."
Source said the official is using Innova for his official use whereas the white Balero is being used by his wife.
Sources said the Balero gets fuel from the SMC stocks and that all maintenance of the vehicle was also being paid by the civic body itself.
Sources said some of the officials in the transport wing of SMC, to keep their superior in good humor, have been providing official resources including the fuel for the travel of wife.
Sources said the same SMC vehicle was also used to ferry domestic goods of the official's family from Jammu.
"Let there be a proper probe into the matter and it will be clear that the vehicle was not being used by the official but by his wife and even trips to Jammu will also be exposed," said a source in the mechanical wing of the SMC.
Sources said the lack of accountability in the system was giving rise to such misuse of government resources.
"If anyone had questioned why Balero wasn't at the office when he (official ) was at himself at office, things would have been different," said one official.
Officials said the case be handed over to the police so that cops through their CID investigate the misuse of government vehicle.
Talking to Early Times some of the officials at the SMC said it was high time for the Raj Bhawan to initiate probe into such complaints.
"Public money is being wasted on domestic use. This is really bad," they said.
A SMC official downplayed the issue saying "some people might be trying to defame the officer."
Despite repeated attempts the said officer couldn't be contacted for comments.
