| Bhim hangs out his Payjama for public ridicule | | | Early Times Reporter

Taking for an apparent derision the public urge for knowing assets of their leaders, the Panthers Party chairman Bhim Singh today took pride in declaring a pair of payjamas and shawls among other things as his assets.
Following a wide public debate at national level seeking the political leaders and parties to declare their assets, the Panthers Party supremo literally made a mockery of the issue by declaring ridiculous things as his assets. Going by the statement issued on his behalf by a party leader, it is though not doubted what he has declared as his possessions but payjama and shawls was perhaps was not required to be known by the public.
Bringing to the fore one by one his ‘assests’, Bhim Singh has also projected an abject state of poverty he is undergoing.
The statement says that the declaration which has already been submitted to the Legislative Council enlists Bhim’s properties including: 19 canals of agricultural (un-irrigated) land in his village, Bhugterian, in Tehsil Ramnagar, District Udhampur. He also owns a video and still camera besides, a laptop and some pares of paijama and shawls.
It is further contained in the statement that he has three bank accounts in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi. The total amount he was having is around Rs.20,000/-. He owns one Ambassador-1993 Model Car and in 1975-Model Motorcycle worth about Rs.15,000/-. Prof. Bhim Singh was gifted a piece of one canal of land by his younger brother, Late Principal Shri Jagdish Singh for the construction of a house which has not been built till this date though Prof. Bhim Singh has taken a loan of Rs.5 lacs from the Legislative Council.
The statement said that Bhim Singh belonged to a decorated family whose male members were buried alive under the foundation of Ramnagar Fort some 200 years back by the rulers. Till 1951, Prof. Bhim Singh’s parents owned thousands acres of land in Ramnagar Tehsil which was taken away by Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah’s government without any compensation leaving only 23 acres for the family consisting of parents, 6 brothers and five sisters thus forcing the family to starve as a revenge against the Dogra dynasty.
Prof. Bhim Singh was MLA for two terms (1977-1987) and he is Member of Legislative Council for the past five years. He is Barrister-at-Law, Graduated in Law from London University, LL.M with distinction and World famed human rights lawyer and champion of the wretched of the Earth.
He supported and pleaded the cases of those who were targeted by the USA like; President Saddam Hussein of Iraq, President Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia, Yasir Arafat, Chief of Palestine. He has been regular tax payer. In spite of all this his properties are before the public view, 50 years back and today.
Another important feature is that Prof. Bhim Singh does not use a penny of his salary and allowances (Rs.40300)/-) for himself. He has been contributing his entire salary and allowances to the JKNPP.
While presenting the financial side of the Chairman, I hope and trust that all political leaders including the Chief Minister, the Ex-Chief Ministers and the presidents of the political parties shall place the list of their properties before the public as is done by Prof. Bhim Singh. |
