Mutton sellers violate Govt order, increase rate
5/3/2019 11:34:55 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 3: Maintaining Monopoly and lack of Government control, some of the mutton sellers are selling mutton at Rs 450 per kg in Jammu. The mutton is being sold at the rate of Rs 450 per/kg. To much surprise of consumers these mutton sellers are not keeping any rate list on their shops.
The failure of Government especially Jammu Municipal Corporation and other concerned departments to maintain proper check on rate has added to woes of consumers.
The consumers enter into arguments with mutton sellers who do not agree to sell the mutton even one rupee less than Rs 450.
Sources said that nexus between the officials and mutton sellers in the city is allowing the butchers to dictate terms to the customers.
Even some mutton sellers also don't weigh properly as their electronic machines do not work properly. But there is also no check from Government on them.
Sources said in open violation of Government order even mutton sellers kill sheep and goats in shops instead of butcher khanas created by Government. Thereby no official seal certifying the quality of mutton lies the sheep and goat killed by them for sale.
This way the consumers purchasing mutton from shops don't have any guarantee of the quality of mutton purchased by them.
Sources said as the mutton sellers directly violate consumer law, the authorities deliberately avoid to initiate any action against them.
This has led to a lot of resentment against the government agencies entrusted with regulating rate and checking quality of mutton.
Sources said by compromising with quality of mutton and maintaining a criminal silence over the same the authorities are playing with Heath of people and exposing it to grave risk.
