| GDC organizes Botanical tour | | | Early times Report
Doda, May 5: Under the aegis of Principal Dr. Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi, the Department of Botany, Govt Degree College Doda organised a Botanical tour for the students today.
A group of sixty students accompanied by Dr. Tasir Sharief (HoD Botany), Prof. Younis Rashid and Dr. Nasir Aziz Wagay of Botany Department. The students were enriched with the knowledge of diverse flora of the region. The tour was organised to Bhaderwah where different sites visited by students include Gatha lake, Botanicalgarden Bhade-rwah campus, and Nalthi. The tour encouraged and boosted the zeal of students for the rich biodiversity of the area and inculcated more interest in the field of Taxonomy.
The major objective was to familiarize the students with the flora and ecology of the region. Dr. Tasir enlightened the students about the rich biodiversity of the region, threw light on the current issues related to the plants and discussed the need of the hour.
Prof Younis and Dr. Nasir gave the practical knowledge of identification to the students.
As a part of their curriculum, students collected plants for herbarium preparation. Students were familiarized with the floral description of Rhododendron, Angiosperms of medicicinal and ornamental importance. |
