| Tourism Deptt organises 3 day trekking expedition | | |

RAMBAN, May 5: To promote and keep up the adventure tourism quotient in Jammu, the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu conducted a three day Trekking expedition from Sanasar to Shankpal for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers. The Group comprising of thirty participants from within the State and also from other States like Delhi, Hyderabad made their 14 Kms long journey to Shankhpal and back. The Shankpal temple is located at the highest point on the Shankpal ridge at an altitude of 2897 metres. The camping ground is pristine, secluded and provides a spectacular view in every direction. The beautiful trek amidst lush green meadows gives a 360 degree view of Udhampur, Doda, Batote, Ramban and Patnitop region. All Trekkers found the expedition a complete rejuvenating experience and were happy to trek to Shankpal temple which has unmatched beauty. Locals maintain that the original temple was over 400 years old and no mortar was used to build this temple. Speaking on the occasion, Om Prakash Bhagat Director Tourism, Jammu said that the participation of outside State Trekkers is a welcome step as they would spread a word about the place which is mostly untouched and unheard. These events promote lesser known beauty spots, historical and religious places of Jammu and as such attempt to explore and behold mystical landscapes that will remain in one's heart and soul. |
