Lakhanpur post foils chicken smuggling bid

Jammu, May 5: Toll officials at Lakhanpur toll post claimed to have defeated an attempt of toll evaders to smuggle high toll attracting dressed Chicken, Tollable @ Rs.900/- quintal in the grab of low toll attracting Fish, Tollable @ Rs.235/- Quintal.
Truck No.JK03E-7266 entered the Toll Post and declared the item 'Fish' on the challan at the import assessment counter of the Toll post. Items like Fish, Chicken and other perishable goods are being given a hassle free passage at toll post and all such trucks are routed through 'Green Channel' a dedicated Fast lane weighbridge counter.
Assessing Officer subjected the vehicle declaring 'Fish' to physical check and found chicken weighing 2240 Kgs packed and concealed in the ice boxes along with fish.
The willful attempt to evade Toll was dealt under law and toll and penalty amounting to Rs.2,21,760/- was imposed and recovered from the defaulter under Sections 8 and 13 of the J&K Levy of Tolls Act, 1995.
M Raju, IAS, Excise Commissioner, J&K applauded the sustained enforcement efforts of the Toll Post and enjoined the Excise officials to work with same zeal and enthusiasm in the future also.
