Poor polling percentage in Shopian-Pulwama of Anantnag LS constituency
5/8/2019 10:41:42 PM
People in South Kashmir of which Anantnag-Shopian is a Lok Sabha constituency, poor percentage of polling indicated the strength of separatists and the militants who wanted to scare voters to remain indoors. Neither greater autonomy nor protests against Article 370 an d Article 35-A abrogation mean anything for people. They are born to take part in violence and engage themselves in stone clashes with the security forces. And whenever the security forces retaliate and use guns to silence the clashing crowds there is simmering discontent among the politicians and the public. What then is the remedy? People keep on relying on protest demonstration and indulge in the incidents of violence. But the security forces have to keep mum and without retaliating keep on watching the situation. This the one idea of Omar Abdullah, G.A. Mir and Mehbooba Mufti. They do not have any other alternative
Whenever the security forces carry out counter terror campaign there is hue and cry from bese politicians. There is a cry for peace and political leaders wish to keep the guns silent on either side but militants are hardly prepared to keep their guns silent. Similarly the Army in Pakistan keep on indulging in repeated ceasefire violations simply to push groups of militants into Kashmir so that the level of violence experiences increase. And whenever the incidents of violence gets increased there is a loud whisper of what people want nothing less than Pakistan. And the claim by the National Conference and the congress that their voters boycotted the polling is also indicative of poor polling percentage.
Very poor polling in Pulwama and Shopian could not be compensated by moderate polling in Khrew and the adjoining areas. Since the Shopian-Pulwama belt saw a poor voter turnout of 2.18 per cent. This is the result of boycott of the Congress and the National Conference because the two premier political parties want Mehbooba to lose. On the whole Anantnag witnessed very poor polling which may fulfill the dreams of the Congress and the NC. However, poor polling percentage is slur on the name of India democracy. This poor voting percentage in the three constituencies in Kashmir discredit fellow politicians who cry for full integration of Kashmir with India. Whether they do it or not is demonstrated by the poor polling percentage which is a slur on the mind of people and politicians. Anything beyond this cannot be expected.
