Kissans - The backbone of the nation
Future hanging in fire
R.B. Suri5/8/2019 10:42:51 PM
In our largest Parliamentary Democracy, generally the elections are held thereby exploiting the Kissans, Dalits and unemployed Youths which is very unfortunate indeed. Kissans are considered as the backbone of the country and they are being neglected always by the political rulers of this country for their vested political interests. Whether it is the NDA or the UPA, they always make the false promises to them. After coming to power, the leaders of these large political groups forget the same resulting which Kissans, Dalits and Unemployed Youths continue to suffer more and more miserably. Kissans, Dalits and Unemployed Youths constitute the big chunk of the electorates in this country. More than 70 percent of the total population of 132 crores are the agriculturists families. In the name of the chemical fertilizers, crop insurance, procurement of their food grains, they are being ditched and dodged drastically. It is a matter of shame on us really. Kissans under the banner of Bhartiya Kissan Union were stopped for entering the seat of power - New Delhi during the Modi's Rule at the center thereby building the big barricades with the 'strong bandobust' of paramilitary forces. Kissans were demanding the implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission at the earliest. They had started the march from Haridawar on September 23 last year in support of their demands. They were lathicharged and teargassed as also were sprinkled coloured water. This was the fourth big Kissan Andolan in the country during the last three years. Despite of the various promises made by PM Modi which include the doubling their incomes by 2022, it is worth mentioning here that the Kissans are not getting the requisite support price for their agricultural produce from the government resulting which they are forced to commit the suicides for not liquidating the borrowed loans to the banks in time. They were on the streets and struggling hard for the acceptance of their genuine demands. PM Modi did not show the courage to meet them at that time and during these days of the general elections in the country, he is speaking very loudly for their upliftment in the days to come. This is very unfortunate on his part. They are suffering a lot whereas the Capitalists of the country are enjoying the privileges and other lucrative facilities given by the Union Government for evading the various taxes. During the rule of five years, Modi did nothing for Kissans and he allowed them to suffer and commit the suicides which are numbered more than 12000. The economic conditions of Kissans are pitiable as they are under the severe burden of loans borrowed from the different banks and the Sohukars and are in able to liquidate the same resulting which they are declared as the defaulters. The crops of the Kissans were insured by the Insurance companies but they were not given the benefits of the crop insurance scheme launched by the Union Government and made them to suffer more and more and on the contrary the Insurance companies had earned the profit more than ten thousand crores out of the crop insurance scheme. Kissans are the depressed lot in this country. Due to their unsound financial position, they are passing their lives miserably. There are few big farmers and whereas the number of the medium and small farmers is to the large extent whose land holdings are very small and are being reduced drastically due to the"Takseem Khangi". Not only this, on "Takseem Khangi", the dependent sons of a farmer gets small piece of land for the cultivation after building the 'Bannas' on the land just for the demarcation purposes. which is the main procurement agency of the Union of India. After harvesting of the crops, Food Corporation of India (FCI) establishes various Mandis at the village level for the purpose of procurement of the food grains produced by the farmers as per the rates announced by the Union government from time to time. They get the payment of their food grains on spot. They get exploited when the government don't come forward in lifting the sugarcane resulting which they remain dependent on owners of the sugar factories from where their money gets blocked for the years together. Due to this bad aspect, they continue to suffer more and more and the prevailing circumstances force them to pass their lives in distress. At the same time, the farmers of the country don't want that their sons and daughters(wards) to concentrate in the crop fields but they instead want that their dependents/wards to go in the government or the Corporate jobs for their good earnings in this competitive World otherwise they would be forced to suffer as their elders had to suffer due to the wrong policies of the States and the Central Government. Also it is pertinent to mention here that after the Industrial Revolution and with the farm mechanization and the high rates of the seeds and the chemical fertilizers, they are feeling helpless to continue with the agriculture profession and they are ready to say good bye to their ancestral profession of agriculture. It is vey un fortunate that the political rulers of the country are playing with their lives for no fault of theirs. The Agriculture Department officials are not providing them with the latest techniques of the agriculture and on the contrary they remain confined to their desk work in their respective offices. Actually they don't go in the fields entrusted to them for the well being of the farmers. This is evident much from the fact that in China the production of the food grains per hectare is to the order of 70 Quintals as against 20 Quintals per Hectare in India. This means that if the farmers in the country are provided with the latest techniques of agriculture, they too can produce more and more and increase their earnings in these hard days of Competitive World. The unemployed youth of the country are also feeling as ditched and dodged lot by the NDA Government at the center led by PM Modi who promised to provide them with 2 crores jobs avenues every year but failed miserably on this score but on the contrary, the youth who were employed earlier before the Demonetization done by the present government have lost their jobs. According the economic experts their number is more than 5 crores. During the elections, the unemployed youth and the farming community are always exploited by the political rulers in this country which is very unfortunate. Due to the Green revolution in the country the Agriculture production of the food grains has been increased to the large extent. But the State and the Central Governments have failed miserably in raising the storage capacity of the cold storages of the already existing across the country resulting which the farming community is facing the number of difficulties in keeping their crops and the other Agri. produces in them. Green revolution, in fact, has added fuel to the fire as the problems of the farmers went on increasing day by day as also the Agri. labourers and the workers were retrenched from their jobs. The trade union activities also have been curbed by the government in the organized sector due to its faulty policies. When we talk about the unorganized sector, the position of the workers has taken a very bad shape where under they are unable to earn their bread and butter for their poor families. Not only this, the promises made by PM Modi have not been fulfilled properly resulting which the people of the country started raising their voice against the Modi government which is enjoying the support of the Corporate World at their cost. At the same time, it is worth mentioning here that PM Modi has built up the India's reputation across the World successfully and got the tremendous support from the super powers and other nations towards India resulting which it made a great set back to Pakistan which is spreading the terrorism in India particularly in the Kashmir valley. Thousands have died already due to the killings made by the PAK terrorists in J&K over which its eyes are there. It is worth mentioning here that during my service carrier as a District Officer, I were attending the various District Development Board meetings generally presided over by the Cabinet Minister of the State Government and some times even by the Chief Minister himself. With the sense of great concern, Agriculture sector was getting the first priority as No.1 and usually such like meetings were starting with the Agriculture sector only and rest other departments were following it. PDD,PHE and Irrigation, Health, Education, Social Welfare departments were coming under the discussions in these meetings afterwards always. Now this practice has been changed and the Agriculture sector stands totally side lined. Badly experiencing from this fact, it is clear that the Agri. and Allied sectors have been considered as the neglected sectors resulting which the farming community at large is feeling depressed a lot due to the faulty policies of the government. Also there are number of the Agriculture Universities across the country which are producing the Agriculture Technocrats every year besides doing the research also but of no use for the farming community as their produce is not being taken care of by the government properly and allowing them to suffer more and more. Since farmers are the backbone of the nation, they should get the top priority as compared to others for their up liftment. In these days of the general elections in the country every political party is in the race of power at the center is crying for their benefits but practically they are ditching and dodging the farming community for no fault of theirs resulting which their future is hanging in fire. Actually, they need the fair play with them.
