Neglected Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground lacks basic amenities
5/10/2019 11:37:00 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 10: Though located in posh area of Jammu city, the Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground narrates a sordid tale of neglect.
The ground lacks basic amenities like water, seating arrangement, sun shades and sanitation. The resting place for the departed souls particularly for those whose residences fall in posh Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Sanjay Nagar and adjoining localities is in a pathetic state. However, the authorities, as well as those at the helm of affairs supervising the maintenance of Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground, are hardly showing any concern for its facelift.
The mourners, who reach the cremation ground to pay their last respects to the departed souls, have to go through an ordeal at the venue as they hardly find any suitable place to sit while they also bear the brunt of weather as in the event of a rainfall they get drenched and amidst scorching heat they perspire. Despite repeated appeals from the residents of Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and adjoining areas nothing has changed. Moreover, the visitors who come here on their chauffeur driven vehicles have to stay back unduly for prolonged durations in scorching heat or during rainfall after a cremation gets over because the place has no proper parking facility. Since there is no provision of shelters or sunshades near the newly created entrance, the visitors on several occasions have to bear the brunt of inclement weather.
