Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: The Registrar of Central University of Jammu has directed the Head of various departments to report him, before permitting the faculty to proceed for summer break, evoking strong reaction among teaching faculty, especially the professors.
The Registrar of CUJ on 8th of May issued a notification number 32 of 2019, according to which University would observe summer break from 24th of May and the faculty might proceed for summer break but not without ensuring some works. These works include submission of results of end semester exam, conduct of Board of Studies and School Board meetings, Course allocation among faculty, time-table, teaching plan of the department submission of data for NAAC-SSR report compilation.
As per notification the HODs have been directed to ensure all these works and report to the office of Registrar, which was itself humiliating and undermining the authority of Heads. "As per their seniority and quorum the HODs usually report to Dean of School, who in turn report to Vice Chancellor and not the Registrar", sources said.
They further said, "the unnecessary interference by administrative wing in the teaching as well as research works has created such a gloomy atmosphere in the university that most of the teaching faculty have been mulling to move from the varsity".
"The NAAC team during its visit in 2017 had appreciated the varsity's faculty for getting so much research projects. The Coordinators of the research projects was initially enthusiastic but later started feeling suffocated due to unnecessary administrative hurdles such as non-furnishing of Utilization Certificates on time, demanding Undertakings for small works, cumbersome formalities for every work. Many of Coordinators especially of Science stream have been mulling to return-back the projects, anticipating blacklisting by agency", sources said, adding that most of faculty members have also been contemplating to shift to some other universities.
Both the Teacher's Associations of the University have also taken serious view of the matter and are likely to take matter with Vice-Chancellor regarding undermining of the authority of HODs as well as to stop unnecessary hurdles being created by administration in the working of the teaching faculty.
