Poonch residents demand stern action against drug peddlers
5/13/2019 11:15:13 PM
Early Times Report

POONCH, May 13: Residents of town have lambasted the district administration especially the district police for not taking adequate measures to curb drug menace in the district. This is despite the fact that large number of youth has fallen prey to this life consuming habit.
Locals said that in last fortnight three young boys have become victims of drug consuming. Although on occasions police and some NGOS conducted anti drugs programmes and workshops at college and school levels to educate teenagers and youths about the ill and evil effects of drugs and psychotropic substances, but all these cosmetic measures have almost no effect on drug consumers, peddlers and the suppliers and their kingpins, they said.
"The role of the police is also not forthcoming as death rate of the youths is multiplying day by day. District Police is acting as mute spectator without any major breakthrough despite getting full support from civil society of Poonch. The police handling of this issue is quite casual without any success. There is alarm in the society as a whole, the narcotic terror is hovering over the minds of every parent and youths have become the object of suspicion. The life of whole generation of the youths is under threat as at any moment any young budding child can become victim drugs," said the locals.
The locals said that police of District Poonch must chalk out a strategy to book all those who are involved in Narcotic trade and are playing with lives of our children. Police must come out with foolproof cases so that they stand test of judicial scrutiny. Let us all awake and save the society from extinction and make concerted efforts to defile and defeat the evil designs of drug mafia with our joint resistance.
