Early Times Report

Jammu May 13: Days after Early Times carried a news on cultivation of opium despite government ban on such cultivation, revenue officials under the supervision of Tehsildar Drabshalla Shoiab Latief along with police team from Police Post Drabshalla today destroyed the crop in Saroor and Badhat areas of Kishtwar District.
Reports said, the tehsildar concerned took cognizance of Early Times news and activated its ground staff including Patwaris of concern Patwar Halqa.
The revenue team destroyed Poppy cultivation on approximately 10 kanal of land and warn the people about violation of government ban on cultivation of Poppy.
The officials in the administration told the Early Times that efforts were on to identify more areas where people had grown or cultivated the crop.
It is pertinent to mention that instead of implementing the ban on the cultivation of this crop, it is flourishing in villages situated in the outskirts of Kishtwar town and its peripheries under the close nose of agencies responsible for checking such activities.
Reports said the open opium fields with full of flowers have been clearly seen in Bugrana village of Saroor in and in other areas including outskirts of Kishtwar town.
The locals also suspected the hand of concerned officials in cultivation of banned opium in Kishtwar and Doda District.
