'Champions of hartal' in Kashmir skip shutdown call against rape of 3-yr-old
5/14/2019 1:09:37 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 13: Even as the rape of a three year old girl in Bandipora area of north Kashmir has shocked the entire world, the people of Kashmir, who are otherwise seen as "champions" of observing hartals for the so called Kashmir issue skipped to observe strike call given against the gruesome incident.
Even though some political and religious groups had given a call for complete hartal in Kashmir on Monday against the rape incident, in the absence of support from the Hurriyat and their counterparts, the strike for the "cause of humanity" didn't mature.
Even though people of Kashmir and their separatist leaders often call for hartal in the name of "resolution to Kashmir issue" and even arrest against arrest of political leaders, none of such faces supported the cause of strike against the gruesome incident.
"The cold shouldered response of Kashmir towards call for hartal against rape has only exposed that the humanity has no value in this valley and there's only politics," said a teacher at Kashmir University.
It is pertinent to mention here that a three year old girl was raped on May 8, allegedly by her neighbor in Bandipora district.
As per the family, the accused, arrested by police, had lured the girl to a nearby school building by giving her chewing gum and that he raped her there.
The police have constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe in the incident.
Ironically even though any peaceful hartal was not observed but miscreants at places resorted to violence and pelted stones on police.
Meanwhile Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed shock and pain over the extremely heinous incident of rape of a 3 year old girl from Bandipora district.
"On learning about the unfortunate incident, Governor immediately spoke to S.P. Pani, IGP Kashmir and took detailed review of the ongoing investigations into the case. He directed the IGP to work swiftly in the case and ensure that the culprit gets exemplary punishment for this shameful act," the official spokesman said.
