Mayor holds meeting with forest officials, reviews progress of various projects

JAMMU, May 16: Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Chander Mohan Gupta held a meeting with officers of Forest Department and discussed the progress of various projects.
Kuldeep Kumar, DFO, Amit Kumar, DFO, Sanjay Gupta, DFO, Sunil Singh, DFO, Rajesh Gupta, Technical Advisor to Mayor JMC and Anil Gupta, AEE JMC were also present in the meeting.
The progress of various projects in Jammu such as Environmental Park, bypass National Highway, Jamboo Zoo, plantation under social forestry and urban forestry was discussed. Mayor JMC was informed that out of 415 kanals of land in Gharana wet land about 358 kanals has been demarcated with poles. The matter was pending since long and now after the intervention of High Court land compensation to the tune of Rs 11-12 crore is being paid to the land owners in order to aquire the land. Mayor, JMC directed the officers to complete the process immediately so that long delayed project of Gharana wet land can see the light of the day as soon as possible.
Mayor was informed for Jamboo zoo, that out of a DPR amounting to Rs 121 crore, about Rs 62.41 crore has been approved under phase I. However he laid stress that the matter shall be taken up with the Governor so that complete DPR amount shall be released in one go for completion of world class Jamboo zoo at the earliest as this will improve the socio-economic condition of the people of the State.
For Environmental Park, Mayor JMC said the Park at present is unattended and in shabby condition and thus is not able to attract tourist flow. He directed that the Park shall be developed in collaboration with the JMC to invite more and more tourists. Mayor expressed concern over the bad condition of two restaurants near Mahamaya temple. He directed to make the restaurants functional after renovation within two months.
