POONCH, May, 16: Despite clear directions from the School Education Department to increase enrolment in government institutions, the officials of the department in Poonch have not only failed to initiate the enrolment drive but have also failed to provide teachers in Primary and Middle Schools for attracting students in rural areas.
Over 50 Primary and Middle schools in Poonch district have a single teacher forcing the villagers to admit their wards in private schools.
Muhammad Aslam Malik, Sarpanch Arai Malikan, said, “We have submitted a memorandum to CEO Poonch that P/S Dhakran Wali Arai, P/S Kalsan Arai, P/S Lohen Wali and P/S Khori Wala have a single teacher which compels the villagers to admit their wards in private schools because all know that single teacher cannot do justice with the students.”
“The government has opened numerous schools for the local public but failed to provide basic infrastructure, teachers and even basic needs in schools and whenever we talk to CEO Poonch we get negative response, ” he rued.
Similarly, there are number of primary and middle schools in other areas of Poonch district with single teacher.
The locals have met CEO on many occasions but till date nothing has been done. “Yes, it is true that there are number of primary and Middle Schools in Poonch district having single teachers and they are unable to do justice with the students,” said, Mohinder Bali, District President All Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Teachers Federation.
