Udhampur, May 20: Asserting that overall situation in the stateof Jammu and Kashmir is under control, Northern Command Army Commander, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh on Monday said that as many as 86 militants have been neutralized so far.
"The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is well under control," Gen Singh here told reporters at a press conference after a function organized for educational scholarship distribution to the selected youth of the state.
"As far as we are concerned, we have Line of Actual Control with China where we have been able to ensure to maintain peace and tranquility,
the established confidence buildings to ensure that there are no point of rift and also to ensure no frictions take place," he added and said that if any transgressions or face offs, which do take place, the established mechanisms do take care of that for overall peace and tranquility.
"As regards the Line of Control with Pakistan is concerned, Pakistan has continued with activities, which are mainly anti India like promoting cross border infiltration, ceasefire violations, drug trafficking, narcotics and circulation of fake Indian currency," said the Army Commander.
He added that all their actions are ensuring the proxy war raged against India is in continuation, adding, "But I assure you that our actions to counter them are in place and the Pakistan will not be allowed to succeed in their designs".
"As far as the hinterland is concerned, we have recently finished with the elections in the state. It is to the credit of the security forces, administration in the state that we have very peaceful, free and fair elections," he added.
"While we have ensured peaceful elections, we have also continued our efforts of neutralizing the terrorists on very hard inputs from various intelligence agencies that led to surgical operations," the Army Commander said.
He maintained that this year so far, Army has been able to neutralize 86 terrorists and the operations to neutralize them, is continuing in the same manner.
"Many have also surrendered, many came back and joined the mainstream," he said.On February 26 air strikes in Balakote by the Indian Air Force, the General said, "The action by IAF for carrying out air strikes in Balakote militant infrastructure was needed laudable. Our aircrafts penetrated deep into their territory and carried out attacks on launch pads and camps".
"They also carried out their operations close to the LOC but were given very befitting reply," he said and added, "our deterrence, our articulation and our military strategy have always been clear. Should there be any misadventure by the Pakistan, there will be given a

The General said, "terrorists infrastructure remains intact in POK and Pakistan, we feel that Pakistan's insincerity to have peace and tranquility with India, which is very pronounced".
