Police recover 650 kg poppy straw

Ramban, May 21: The menace of drugs among the youth is spreading at an alarming rate which is among the greatest causes of concern, Police recovered 650-kilogram poppy straw.
As per the details available, carrying forward the special drive, on the directions of SSP Ramban Anita Sharma, a police party led by SHO Ramban Inspector Vijay Kotwal under supervision of DY. SP Hqrts Ramban Asgar Malik and under the close supervision of Additional SP Sanjay Parihar laid a surprise naka at Digdol on NHW to conduct the checking of vehicles.
During checking an Oil Tanker bearing Reg no. JK02/6735 which was on its way from Kashmir has been signaled to stop for checking. On seeing naka party the driver of the vehicle stopped the oil tanker at a little distance away from the naka and fled away from the spot in suspicious condition.
On thorough search of the vehicle, recovered 33 gunny bags filled with Poppy Straw (Bhukki) like substances weighing about 650 Kilograms from one of the empty compartment of the oil tanker, the new modous operandi how to smuggle the contraband. The said vehicle has been seized.
In this regard case FIR NO 123/19 under section 8/15 of NDPS act stands registered against the accused persons at Police Station Ramban and investigation has been geared up to asertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of contraband.
